CFC and Other Workplace Campaigns Indispensable to
Pro-Life Educational Efforts
-- Part Two of Two

By Marie Hagan

Thanks to revenue generated by contributions to the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), state employee campaigns, and private-sector campaigns, the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund and NRLC state affiliates’ educational arms are able to help educate their communities in vast and varied ways.

For over 20 years the NRL Trust Fund has participated in the CFC and state and private-sector campaigns and shared the proceeds with its state affiliate education funds. This is an easy, convenient, and effective way for pro-lifers to have a grassroots impact.

For this year, the CFC is nearing completion. Please look for the Human Service Charities of America (HSCA), under which you will find the NRL Trust Fund’s agency number—#10542.

The CFC campaign was created in the early 1980s by the Office of Personnel Management for federal employees to give to the charity of their liking. The activity starts each year around the beginning of September and spans into November on military bases, post offices, and in other federal workplaces around the country.

During these months, employees receive CFC brochures which list charities alphabetically under a federation. The National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund, for example, is listed under the federation called Human Service Charities of America (HSCA) along with an agency number (#10542) and a 25-word description.

But there are other opportunities. Each year, the NRL Educational Trust Fund applies to participating state employee campaigns (not all states offer workplace giving campaigns). This year NRL has been accepted to participate in California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

In each of these state campaigns, NRL is listed alphabetically under HSCA’s parent federation, which is called Neighbor to Nation (NTN).

Also, NRL receives contributions from a variety of private-sector campaigns which allow employees to “write in” the charity they wish to give to. Simply check with your workplace to see if they offer this option.

Last year, Hawaii Right to Life’s Carol White sent the Trust Fund a thank you letter. She explained how Hawaii RTL provides educational booths at Honolulu’s Senior Fair and at the Hawaii Catholic Diocese’s Teen and Young Adult Rally. This allowed them to reach young people from the other islands where they do not otherwise have a presence.

In addition, they funded distribution of educational materials to several private schools via librarians and teachers and provided educational materials for an annual Homeschoolers of Hawaii conference.

Iowa Right to Life President Kim Lehman also sent a thank you letter to the Trust Fund. She shared how workplace campaign contributions helped fund Iowa’s statewide oratory contest, educational print ads, a speaking tour, and a book sale to help crisis pregnancy centers last year.

All of NRL’s state affiliate groups put educational funds to fabulous work on behalf of the unborn, those with disabilities, and the elderly.

If you or someone you know is a federal, state, or even private-sector employee with a workplace campaign, look for or write in the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund. Please make a contribution to help bolster pro life educational efforts! Thank you.
