A Follow-Up to "Birth or Not"
Part One of Three

By Dave Andrusko

Good evening, and thanks to all our readers for taking time to read Today's News & Views. Part Two is more about NARAL's campaign against CPCs. Part Three is a rebuttal to the pervasive media myth that abortion was not an important issue in the mid-term elections. Over at National Right to Life News Today (www.nationalrighttolifenews.org), we write the opportunity to help Autos for Life and about another risky trial using human embryonic stem cells. Please send your comments on Today's News & Views and National Right to Life News Today to daveandrusko@gmail.com. Last week we wrote about the bizarre online poll which the parents of an unborn child were running ostensibly to decide whether to abort their 17-week-old unborn child (see "Almost Beyond Imagination: An Internet 'Up or Down' on Life" http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv111810.html). The story, as they say, had already gone viral.

The ensuing back and forth included both the need to try to save the baby, and a vigorous discussion about whether it was a hoax (perpetrated by pro-lifers or, alternatively, by "pro-choicers."

Some people wrote me to say that they were indignant to be even alerted that people could "vote" whether Pete and Alisha Arnold would/could/should abort their child. I fully understood their perspective. It does smack of the Roman Coliseum and threatens (if possible) to further unravel what remains of our respect for life.

Others wrote to say that felt compelled to vote on the baby's behalf. They assumed this is not a hoax and felt that it was their responsibility to vote to try to save a child's life.

As for whether this is a hoax, proponents cite one or the other piece of "evidence." For what it's worth, I don't find that any of it proves it is a put-on.

As I scanned their blog what stands out to me is that they actually seem to MEAN what they say.

When I wrote this blog entry earlier today, Sunday was the latest entry at www.birthornot.com. It read, "You have undoubtedly noticed a large shift in the votes from yesterday to today. They went from 81/19 [percentage] in favor of Giving Birth to what they are at the time of this posting : 42/58 [percentage] in favor of Abortion. This change has happened in approximately a 30 hour period."

Vote for the baby, and pray!
