The Pro-Life Week in Review
Part One of Three

By Dave Andrusko

Good evening, and thanks to all our readers for taking time to read Today's News & Views as we come to the end of the week. Part Two is a brilliant rebuttal to a pro-abortion op-ed in the Washington Post. Part Three is the speech soon-to-be House Speaker John Boehner delivered last summer to the National Right to Life annual convention. Over at National Right to Life News Today (www.nationalrighttolifenews.org), we begin with a look at a hysterical pro-abortionist, worried sick by the November 2 elections. Wesley Smith provides a great and funny look at just how far embryonic stem cell proponents will go. And then I end the week with the ramifications of a proposed FDA change. I thought there might a bit of letdown the week after the mid-term elections, but I was wrong. We have been as busy as ever both here and at Today's News & Views and at National Right to Life News Today (www.nationalrightotlifenews.org).
NRLC Analysis --
Voters Rebuked
"Pro-Life" Supporters of Obama Health
Care Law

The week's coverage began on the weekend when pro-abortion President Barack Obama made his trek to "60 Minutes" to commiserate with correspondent Steve Kroft (http://www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/60Minutes.html). What did the public learn? That Obama had learned nothing from his party's crushing electoral defeat.

ObamaCare? "So, ultimately, I had to make a decision: do I put all that aside, because it's gonna be bad politics?" Obama said. "Or do I go ahead and try to do it because it will ultimately benefit the country? I made the decision to go ahead and do it."

So it was not the biggest drag on a party already weighted down with lots of other problems. Or, even it was, sticking behind this monstrosity was a profile in courage. Obama's narcissism is amazing.

As is always the case, we spent a lot of time clearing the air of pro-abortion misinformation (http://www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/Be http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv110810.htmlrwicktoTestify.html; http://www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/Irrational.html; and http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv110910part2.html). This is as important as it is ongoing.

And we reminded you several times of NRLC's important Legislative Strategy Conference coming up December 7 (http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv110910.html). A lot of good things can come out of the November 2 elections if we capitalize on dramatic pro-life gains in state legislative and gubernatorial elections.

Naturally, we pay lots of attention to the aftermath of the elections. How could we not? (http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv111110part2.html; and http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv111110part2.html).

You will hear generalizations glibly thrown out. But we provide pro-lifers with the kind of in-depth summaries and breakdowns of what took place that make it possible for our readers to understate the lay of the land. Be sure to read as well http://ncronline.org/blogs/distinctly-catholic/q-election-analysis-douglas-johnson-national-right-life-committee where our legislative director details what happened and why.

Lots more, but let me just mention two. First, it is very important that you order copies of the special January 22 National Right to Life News Commemorative Edition. Everything you need to know as we enter a new year will be found there (http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv110110part3.html).

If you aren't subscribing to the pro-life newspaper of record," you are missing out on a tremendous resource. (You can call us at 202-626-8828 and we will get you started immediately.)

Second, be SURE to read both stories I wrote about President Bush's new book and his interview with NBC's Matt Lauer (http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv111010.html; and http://www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/BushStemCellPolicy.html). Mr. Bush played an instrumental role in advancing the cause of life.
