The News about Abortionist
LeRoy Carhart: Day Two
Part Three of Three

Abortionist Leroy Carhart |
Yesterday we talked about
late, late, late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart who told local
Nebraska media that he was hightailing it out of town to set up
three abortion clinics-- in Maryland, near the U.S. Capital,
Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Indianapolis (www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv111010part2.html).
He's leaving because of Nebraska's historic "Pain-Capable Unborn
Child Protection Act" [L.B. 1130]. This law is bad news for a
man who specializes in taking the lives of unborn children so
advanced in age that it makes even harden abortionists blanche.
Today's news stories added
additional details. For example he told Rob Stein of the
Washington Post, "The laws are more favorable in these other
jurisdictions, and we're going to do the maximum the law
allows." Think about that for a moment.
However, unlike
yesterday's stories, which specified a "suburban Maryland" site,
in the Post story Carhart is more vague. He refused to say
whether the abortion clinic, which will open December 6, would
be in DC "or one of the Virginia or Maryland suburbs."
"The patients, when they
call, will be told where to go. The 'antis' will find out soon
enough, but I don't want to help them," Carhart told the Post.
"We will be subject to protests, but I'm not going to give them
a head start."
The most interesting
response came from a pro-abortion blog--
www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2010/11/11/roundup-antichoice-rejoice-while-carhart-plans-clinics.
The author, Robin Marty,
began by chortling about how those anti-choice fanatics had
outsmarted themselves. "But is it really a victory when he's
opening up three new clinics instead?" And--ha-ha--nobody
challenged the law, so the goal of getting the law before the
Supreme Court was short-circuited.
Then, it was like the
light went on. Wait, wait, don't tell me that I forgot all about
what happened not just in Congress last week but around the
nation!
"With a number of state
legislatures moving to complete GOP control, copy cat
legislation can be expected to pop up all over in the next
session," Marty bemoaned. "The idea that this type of onerous,
controversial bill could be held to one state is no longer a
given, and a court challenge is likely to be the only way to
avoid a country that will allow women the right to an abortion
after 20 weeks only if she is lucky enough to live in a certain
state."
Yes, you got it. See you
at the legislature.
