A Radio Program You Should Listen To -- Part One of Two

Editor's note. After listening to the programs, please drop me a note at daveandrusko@hotmail.com.

I apologize for not giving you more of a heads-up. Yesterday was chaotic and I didn't see the email from Leslie Leyland Fields until this morning.

Leslie is the author of a book we love around here-- "Surprise Child: Finding Hope in Unexpected Pregnancy." She was alerting friends and admirers of what I have called her "small masterpiece" to a two-part radio program that began today.

The link for Part One is www.familylife.com/site/apps/nlnet/content3.aspx?c=dnJHKLNnFoG&b=3832113&ct=5284509.

As Leslie explains in her email, the program is looking at unplanned pregnancy through the lens of her book. She writes, " The book and the show is utterly honest about living through the realities of unplanned pregnancy--it follows about 30 women's journeys, as well as my own (pregnant twice in my mid-forties, with four other children already), and shares as well strategies that helped move all of us from shock and anger to acceptance and even joy."

You can read my review of "Surprise Child" at www.nrlc.org/news_and_views/December06/nv120806part1.html which tells the powerful stories of these women who chose life in very difficult circumstances. Let me end with the final paragraph of my review, which quotes Leslie:

"You did not listen to those who may have urged you to end this pregnancy. You have changed your life, sustained other losses to bring this baby to light and air. And now you have something to show for these months and sacrifices: beautiful bone and flesh and blood of your very bone. But there is more. You are more than you once were. You emerge from this birth more resilient and resourceful, wider and deeper than the woman who stared unbelieving at a test stick forty weeks ago. You've traveled so far and done so much. Rest now in all you have created and become."
