Tell Congress
-- Defund Planned Parenthood now!
|
|
Members of the
U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and
President Obama are engaged in negotiations about
which federal programs should be reduced or
eliminated for the remainder of the current federal
fiscal year. Important decisions may be made very
soon!
On February 18, 2011, the House of Representatives
adopted an amendment, offered by Congressman Mike
Pence (R-In.) and strongly supported by National
Right to Life, to eliminate all forms of federal
funding for the Planned Parenthood Federation of
America (PPFA) and its affiliates, which were listed
by name in the amendment.
The House vote was 240-185 in favor of the Pence
Amendment.
In the wake of the House vote adopting the Pence
Amendment, Planned Parenthood has launched a massive
campaign to try to save its federal funding,
complete with TV ads, lobbying by entertainment
celebrities, and defenses of Planned Parenthood by
organs of the mainstream news media.
The slick, expensive Planned Parenthood public
relations campaign can only be countered by one
thing: Contacts from real voters, directly to their
elected representatives in Congress, with the
message: Defund Planned Parenthood NOW.
Planned
Parenthood received over $363 million from
government sources in 2008, much of it from various
federal programs. At the same time, Planned
Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion
provider. Planned Parenthood clinics performed
332,278 abortions in 2009, about one-fourth of all
abortions performed in the U.S. Planned Parenthood
reportedly recently mandated that every one of its
affiliates must provide abortions within two years.
Over one-third of PPFA-affiliated clinic revenues
are generated by selling abortions. Planned
Parenthood is also heavily involved in pro-abortion
advocacy, lobbying, and political activity. (For

Please call, today, the offices of your two U.S.
senators, and your representative in the House of
Representatives. Urge them to insist that the Pence
Amendment, removing all federal funds from Planned
Parenthood, must remain part of the final
appropriations bill. If you enter your zip code in
the "Call Now" box, you will be shown the names and
contact information for the three people who
represent you in Congress, as well as guidelines for
what to say on your call. You will also have the
option of sending NRLC a short email message
reporting on what the congressional staff told you
when you called.
Please call today (preferably, during business
hours). Ask your friends and family members to call
as well.
