An Unpopular Bill That Will Not
Stand
Part Three of Three
By Dave Andrusko
We've written about ObamaCare (aka
health care "reform") virtually
every day for weeks. We will
continue to update you on the
fallout from Sunday's vote,
fallout that is JUST beginning.

Pro-abortion
President Barack
Obama signs
meaningless
executive order.
|
The oldest ploy known to man is
to argue that since "both sides"
are unhappy with [whatever it
is], then whatever "it" is, is
probably pretty good policy.
(Reporters habitually trot that
canard out. But if "both sides"
are mad at your story, perhaps
you just did a crummy job. But I
digress.)
Pro-abortionists are said to be
unhappy with the abortion
components of the Senate bill
which became law Tuesday after
the House voted in favor of it
on Sunday and President Obama
signed the measure into law
Tuesday. So, too, are
pro-lifers--adamantly so.
The abortion side is unhappy
because they did not win
everything they had in their
bottomless agenda. And the
importance of that limitation is
not to be belittled. Had it not
been for the hard work of
countless pro-lifers, the
pro-abortion side would have won
everything that mattered to them
except the inclusion of a tunnel
that runs directly from the U.S.
Treasury to every Planned
Parenthood clinic in America.
But pro-abortionists would have
you believe they won essentially
nothing--even went
backwards--because of some
bookkeeping requirements in the
bill and a toothless executive
order signed by pro-abortion
President Barack Obama. But not
only is the language of the
order useless, it "doesn't mean
a doggone thing," according to
Sen. Orrin Hatch, because the
Obama administration "can change
it any time."
A number of erstwhile pro-life
Democrats "rewarded" pro-lifers
by using the executive order as
an excuse to cast a vote for the
biggest Congressional expansion
of abortion since Roe v. Wade.
House Minority Leader John
Boehner quite correctly said the
executive order is a
"transparent attempt to provide
political cover to Washington
Democrats who betrayed their
constituents" by voting for the
law.
The truth, ironically, was
contained in a story in today's
USA Today by Mini Hall,
headlined, "Both Sides of
Abortion Issue Quick to Dismiss
Order." NRLC's Douglas Johnson
called the Obama Executive Order
"A transparent political fig
leaf. " But PPFA President
Cecile Richard obviously forgot
to read the pro-abortion talking
points. She characterized the
order as "A symbolic gesture"!
Let me close with this from
Rasmussen Reports. It is very
much worth remembering at this
time in our struggle.
"Just before the House of
Representatives passed sweeping
health care legislation last
Sunday, 41% of voters nationwide
favored the legislation while
54% were opposed. Now that
President Obama has signed the
legislation into law, most
voters want to see it repealed.
The latest Rasmussen Reports
national telephone survey,
conducted on the first two
nights after the president
signed the bill, shows that 55%
favor repealing the legislation.
Forty-two percent (42%) oppose
repeal. Those figures include
46% who Strongly Favor repeal
and 35% who Strongly Oppose it.
"In terms of Election 2010, 52%
say they'd vote for a candidate
who favors repeal over one who
does not. Forty-one percent
(41%) would cast their vote for
someone who opposes repeal."
This bill is not popular, not at
all. It will not stand.
