A Look Back at an
Important Week
Part One of Three
By Dave Andrusko
As has become our tradition,
on Friday we take a look back at the week. And what a week it
has been! By way of
preface let me encourage you in the strongest possible terms to
do three things. First respond to the Action Request in Part
Two.
The Democrats are moving
at warp speed to ram through the comically-misnamed "DISCLOSE
Act." It is legislation with one purpose: to make it
as close to impossible as possible for corporations--including
incorporated nonprofit citizen groups such as NRLC--to clue the
public in about
the actions of public officials. (See Urgent: Call Congress To
Oppose DISCLOSE Act.)
Second, if at all
possible, come to the National Right to Life Convention to be
held next week in Pittsburgh. I've written about this three-day
gathering many times in this space, in National Right to Life
News, and in National Right to Life News Today. ( See

Supreme Court nominee
Elena Kagan |
Third, be sure to pass
along TN&V and National Right to Life News Today using your
social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter. The revolution
that is social networking allows us to compete with the
pro-abortionists who are awash in money and federal funds.
Speaking of federal money…
We've commented a number of
times this week about the GAO report on the over $1 billion
doled out since 2002 to organizations that perform or promote
abortion. The leader of the pack, unsurprisingly, is Planned
Parenthood with a whopping $657.1 million!
As Congressman Chris Smith
(R-NJ) explained at a press conference announcing the results of
the GAO report, "A significant portion of federal taxpayer
funding for domestic activities was provided through grants
under the Title X program which provides grants for family
planning.
This program provides a
funding source that helps abortionists set up clinics that do
family planning in one room and abortion in the next."

Drop by drop, the truth about
Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan is seeping out. Working in the
Clinton Administration, Kagan was a key player
in many abortion-related decisions.
Pro-abortion President
Barack Obama has often said he was looking for someone beyond
the usual appeals courts judge suspects to sit on the
High Court. In Kagan, he has nominated someone who flourished in
behind-the-scenes political work. In issues related to what we
are most
concerned about, Kagan was always on the wrong side. (See
http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/June10/nv061510part3.html)
We also ran a marvelous piece
by Peggy Hartshorn, president of Heartbeat International.
Pro-abortionists have Pregnancy Help Centers squarely
in the crosshairs. And understandably so. They are the last line
of defense against the death peddlers, Peggy shows us how
pregnancy help
centers have fought back against PPFA's ally, NARAL. (See
http://www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/FightBack.html)
I could go on and on (for
example, the passage of ultrasound legislation in South
Carolina) but let me end by referring you to the story that
appears in today's edition of National Right to Life News Today.
Cristina Minniti pays tribute to a great pro-lifer who passed
away
unexpectedly just last month.
Keep all who will be
attending NRLC 2010 in your prayers. It will be a wonderful
opportunity to be refreshed and reinvigorated.
