The Precious Life of Baby Jaelynn

What does Obama's Abortion Agenda mean? Pro-lifers could give many well-informed answers to that question, but it really comes down to children like Baby Jaelynn Daniels, who was born March 20 at 25 weeks old. Jaelynn only lived for 11 short minutes, but to her parents she was perfect. That Obama would support aborting such precious babies, that he would hide their personhood in the rhetoric of choice, is an abomination to Rick and Kerry Daniels.

"I just can't imagine how a family man like Obama could do what he's trying to do," Kerry Daniels told NRL News. "When you see pictures of Jaelynn, you can see that this is actually a human life that he says can be aborted. You can see she's beautiful, with a little bit of hair. She even has my husband's dimple on her chin."

The Daniels, of Adrian, Michigan, were aware early on that the pregnancy would be difficult. They had ultrasounds taken at every doctor visit, which showed problems with blood flow to Jaelynn. Those ultrasound videos are now a comfort to the family, as they can see their baby girl's growth and development while still safe in her mother's womb.

"At 20 weeks we got great videos of her opening her mouth," Mrs. Daniels said. "We could see her feet and hands. We were really excited."

With no improvement in blood flow, the Daniels went to a specialist. The doctor told them in no uncertain terms that their best option would be to abort the baby. "But we said absolutely not," recalled Mrs. Daniels. "We would go through anything to give Jaelynn a chance."

Kerry Daniels went on complete bed rest and then remained in the hospital, trying to give her baby time to develop until term. The doctor who urged them to abort continued to give the same advice, while describing the difficulties that parents have with enduring their babies' stays in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

But the doctor underestimated the family's faith and determination. The Daniels spent time in the NICU after the birth of their now-nine-year-old son, Elijah. He was born at 30 weeks weighing two pounds and has cerebral palsy, but the Daniels and their oldest son, Jacob, 18, consider him their "miracle baby." They were willing to spend more time there if they had to.

With Jaelynn's condition getting no better, she had to be delivered at 25 weeks. Jaelynn weighed a tiny eight ounces. The 11 minutes that her parents and oldest brother spent with her are irreplaceable and give them immense comfort in their grief.

"Oh, the things I got to tell her," Mrs. Daniels remembered. "We were able to get pictures and to hold her. She let out a little cry. And then she went home to God."

There is no doubt that the past three months have been heart-wrenching for the Daniels family. "But we know God gave her to us for a reason," Mrs. Daniels said. Jaelynn has touched even the doctor who urged abortion. "We got a letter from him saying he was sorry for the loss of our little girl," she continued. "He also said that if we wanted to try again his assistance is available."

The ultrasound videos and her pictures are clear visual proof of the humanity of Jaelynn and of other tiny, vulnerable babies. "If you're for abortion, this is what you're actually doing," said Mrs. Daniels. "Obama needs to know that he supports killing God's creation. If my daughter, who is resting peacefully in her Father's arms in heaven, was born to change this nation's decision about abortion and give other babies a chance, then Glory to God."
