Much Ado About Nothing or Something?

Editor's note. Please send me your thoughts and comments at daveandrusko@gmail.com.

Cracks in Obamamania, or just a momentary blip? Today's Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Track Poll reveals some very interesting numbers.

We learn that pro-abortion President Barack Obama has what Rasmussen calls a "Presidential Approval Index" of 0 [that's zero].  Almost exactly one-third ( 34%) of American voters say they strongly approve of the way he is performing his role as President. That is exactly the same percentage who strongly disapproves.

When you subtract the strongly disapprove from the strongly approve you get the Presidential Approval Index--in this case zero (34% from 34%). "That's the highest level of strong disapproval and the lowest overall rating yet recorded," according to Rasmussen.

This may not seem like that big a deal, but think about this in context. There are media love-ins and media love-fests and then there is the obsequious way the Establishment Media polishes Obama's image. Let me offer just one example.

As you know Obama gave a speech yesterday at Cairo University. Agence France-Press/Getty Images distributed a photo of Obama in shades and short sleeves, with the Sphinx in the background. Is this guy cool, or what?

One wonders what his Presidential Approval Index might be if even a hint of skepticism was occasionally thrown in as a kind of leaven in reverse.

"Overall, 54% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance so far," Rasmussen reports. "Forty-six percent (46%) disapprove."

Rasmussen offers a possible explanation: "The President's ratings have slipped since General Motors filed for bankruptcy to initiate a new government bailout and takeover." That action is supported by 26% of the public, according to Rasmussen.

This, obviously, has nothing immediately to do with our issue. But it is worth considering for two reasons.

First, when Gallup polled the nation on Obama's decision to gut the pro-life Mexico City policy, it garnered him a whopping 65 % disapproval rating. The more clear-cut the anti-life decision, the more the public understands that Obama is paddling upstream against  the majority of Americans.

Second, as he already has demonstrated on abortion, the more the public realizes exactly the views and policies of the man they elected our 44th President, the harder it will be for Obama's legion of media allies to keep the Mr. Middle of the Road image afloat.

Have a great weekend. Talk to you Monday.
