Our Unshakeable Commitment
Editor's note. My family is on vacation this
week. Today’s edition first ran November 27, 2008. I will be
back at my post on Monday.
Today is Thanksgiving, and I
want to ever-so-briefly express my deepest thanks to all the
pro-life champions with whom it is my privilege to work.
This has been a
challenging year (how's that for an understatement?). But
knowing that unborn babies and NRLC have you at their and our
back makes a difficult time one we can confidently confront and
overcome.
My youngest daughter came
home from college last night. We got to talking and because she
is mentioned in the conclusion, I was reminded of the editorial
I wrote in 1996 just after Bill Clinton had been re-elected.
If I may, I'd like to use
this Thanksgiving's day edition to reprise its conclusion…….
One final note. As
November 5 approached, most days offered more than their share
of challenges. NRLC's staff worked countless hours, especially
NRL PAC staff who made the last-minute effort that helped pull
out narrow wins all over the country. I would like to share one
magic moment with you, for it illustrates why this marvelous
movement will eventually prevail.
One night I came home very
late from work. My children were all asleep and my only thought
was to collapse into bed. As I turned to set the alarm, my eye
caught a simple drawing on the table next to our bed. Louisa, my
seven-year-old, and her class had gone into Washington, D.C.,
for a field trip. The next day they were asked to draw a picture
about their experience.
What I saw late that
October night moved me deeply. What it said I would be proud to
have as an epitaph. Louisa drew me in front of a computer
terminal holding a baby in my arms.
Another young child stood
by my side, as if looking to me for security. The caption read:
"Louisa.

My Dad works in Washing.
My dad hleps the baby to be born not to die.
The White House is there."
Yup, that's what I do:
hleps the baby to be born not die. It is a privilege that I
share with you who faithfully champion the cause of the little
ones.
Thank you for all you've
done and will do (as someone once lovingly put it) "to expose
evil, exalt good, and illuminate truth."
Happy Thanksgiving. If you
have any thoughts you might wish to share, send them to
