Obama's State of the Union Address and Pro-Lifers

Part Two of TN&V for Wednesday discusses pro-abortion President Barack Obama's upcoming State of the Union Address. But let me first not ignore a story that was just brought to my attention.

Pro-abortion President Barack Obama

According to the Associated Press, a mother accused of "giving her pregnant teen daughter drugs to kill the fetus and induced labor will spend three years under house arrest, a judge ordered Friday." After Tonuya Rainey's 16-year-old daughter "gave birth on a toilet at home on March 6, 2009, authorities say, Rainey threw the fetus in the garbage."

The teenager was 24 weeks pregnant when her mother "gave her a combination of pills" to induce the abortion, according to AP. Rainey's public defender told Broward Circuit Judge Matthew Destry "This was not done to be mean or out of anything but love for her daughter."

The plea bargain was worked out after Rainey pled guilty "to five felony and two misdemeanor charges ranging from unlawful termination of pregnancy, practicing medicine without a license, child abuse and unlawful disposal of fetal remains," the AP reported.

Pro-abortion Democrats, still reeling from the totally unforeseen loss of a Senate seat in Massachusetts , are running every which way. Except those in districts that are invulnerable to challenge, it's every man and every woman for themselves.

There are as many angles to all of this panic as there are suddenly vulnerable congresspersons. But for us as single-issue pro-lifers let me make just two points.

Every story you read has a different twist on where we are on health care "reform." Many lead to you believe that, at a minimum, Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will sit on legislation for awhile, trying to find the right language and the right legislative vehicle.

But we've been down this path many times on many different issues before. Now, at a moment of seeming pro-abortion vulnerability, is the time we must be most vigilant.

Even more than usual, they will be sneaky. If they can't get pro-abortion health care "reform" in the front door, they'll try the backdoor, the attic, or the cellar. Be sure to regularly visit http://nrlactioncenter.com and http://powellcenterformedicalethics.blogspot.com so you know what the latest.

Second, no matter how you may have voted, it'd be difficult to deny that Obama has stumbled badly. When Presidents paint themselves into corners, sometimes they willingly change course; sometimes they stubbornly refuse to make a course correction; and sometimes they are so into denial they don't even know they need to contemplate a new strategy.

But regardless, what they do most of the time is try to keep their base happy. We know this likely means that Obama puts a new coat of paint on a decrepit pro-abortion edifice built of (1) continuing to promote the inclusion of abortion-enhancing provisions in health care "reform"; and (2) ramping up other proposals to fatten up the Abortion Establishment's coffers.

Drop me a line tomorrow and let me know what you think of Obama's State of the Union address. Please send them to daveandrusko@gmail.com.
