Shaken, Stirred, But Still
Steadfastly Pro-Abortion
Part Two of Three

"The Obama White House and top
Democratic congressional
leaders, although shaken by the
January 19 election of
Republican Scott Brown to the
Senate seat previously held by
Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.),
still hope to push broad health
care restructuring legislation
through Congress within a matter
of weeks."

Talk about trying to stay
upright during an electoral
earthquake! Whatever evidence of
panic/discombobulation you read
one minute, go back an hour
later and you find even more
examples which are even more
frantic.
The epicenter, of course, is
Massachusetts and the
how-can-THIS-happen election of
Republican Scott Brown to
replace Democrat Ted Kennedy, a
legend in Bay State politics who
passed away in August. The
aftershocks of Brown's 5% win
were immediate--and they have
only just begun.

Pro-abortion
Speaker of the House
Nancy Pelosi
|
They include the pro-abortion
Democratic congressional
leadership scrambling to salvage
a health care "reform" bill,
opposition to which was at the
heart of Brown's campaign. But
as noted in the opening quote,
we know that no matter what they
say in the immediate aftermath
of Brown's victory, these same
Democrats are committed to
sending a bill to President
Obama that would be the greatest
expansion of abortion by
Congress since the Supreme
Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade
decision.
To understand why all you need
do is go back to news accounts
from early December.
The coronation of Democrat
Marsha Coakley was all but
official. Having won her party's
primary, her biggest challenge
was picking out staff and
furniture for her Senate office.
And then….Coakley lost. The
conclusion congealed almost
instantly: if a Democrat can
lose a senate race in
Massachusetts, then no Democrat
is safe….anywhere. Brown's
election was the proverbial "2 x
4" upside the head, which is why
in the first two days, we've
heard (and will hear even more
over the next couple of weeks)
that pro-abortion Democrats "get
it."
No, they haven't.
What they "get" is that the
public is up in arms over a host
of issues and that the trigger
is a bloated health care
"reform" bill that promotes
abortion and threatens
rationing. But that doesn't mean
they will refrain from
scratching the itch that will
make Planned Parenthood and
NARAL happy, or that they will
address the many other
components that infuriate the
electorate. (Nor does it
necessarily mean that a process
wrapped in secrecy will suddenly
be bathed in transparency.) It
just means they'll be sneakier
than ever.

Pro-abortion Senate
Majority Leader Harry
Reid |
Weave all these threads together
and what do you get? According
to pollster Scott Rasmussen,
"Thirty-eight percent (38%) of
voters nationwide favor the
overall health care reform plan
proposed by the president and
congressional Democrats. That
matches the lowest level of
support yet. Fifty-six
percent (56%) oppose the
plan." (Emphasis added.)
But Senate Majority Leader Reid,
House Speaker Pelosi, and
President Obama are not about to
let a little thing like massive
opposition get in the way. They
are personally committed to
furthering the anti-life agenda,
on the one hand.
On the other hand they have been
reassured for a year that all
they need do is pass the bill
and then public resistance will
magically be transformed into
support as they learn of the
"benefits." If they believe
that--and I believe at heart
they still do--we have to be
more on alert than ever.
It's essential that you do
