Fortunately, His Own Logic Not
Applied to Him

There is much to say the day
after pro-abortion Sen. Barack Obama became
pro-abortion President Barack Obama. Pardon me
if it requires a couple of separate TN&Vs. A lot
happened and even more was hinted at.

To say that by Obama's
rhetorical standards yesterday's Inaugural
Address was largely pedestrian is to say the
obvious and to miss the larger point. Whatever
the count, there was a gigantic crowd assembled
Tuesday and the poignancy of the moment cannot,
and should not, be missed: the first
African-American to be sworn in as President.
As I watched the cameras pan
over the audience, I could not help thinking of
the 1990 Rally for Life sponsored by National
Right to Life. While not as large as yesterday's
assembly, it was still gargantuan in
size--probably at least a half-million people
came to our nation's capital. As you might
guess, there was no flood of media celebrities
on hand to sing our praises, nor was the meager
newspaper coverage proportionate to one of the
largest rallies in the history of Washington,
DC.
Nor could I avoid thinking
about the March for Life, which will take place
tomorrow for the 35th consecutive year. A huge
throng of pro-lifers from around the country
will speak the truth about the tragedy of over
50 million unborn lives taken with passion,
commitment, and a redoubled resolve.
The life issues per se were
only alluded to once yesterday-- a mindless
aside about how "We will restore science to its
rightful place," a thinly-veiled jibe at
President Bush's policy on embryonic stem cells.
But in the context of his four-square,
unrelenting support for abortion and resistance
to providing care and legal protection for
babies who survive abortions, what struck me
about the inauguration of Obama is a fundamental
irony.
There is an ad at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2CaBR3z85c
that is must viewing. The visual backdrop is of
a young unborn child in his mother's womb. The
text that we read is as follows:
"The child's future is a
broken home. He will be abandoned by his father.
His single mother will struggle to raise him.
Despite the hardships he will endure, this child
will become the first African American
President." The tag line is, "Life: Imagine the
Potential."
Adding another real-life touch
is that Obama was born six months after his
parents were married. Put all this together, and
what would Planned Parenthood's recommendation
be in a similar case?
The elimination of the child
who would become our 44th President.
Fortunately, the logic of the
people Obama hangs with and supports six days a
week and twice on Sunday, was not applied to
him.
