U.S. House Votes this week on Defunding Planned Parenthood, and Other Important Pro-life Issues
Part One of Four

By Dave Andrusko

Good evening and thanks for being part of the discussion. Parts Two, Three, and Four are the latest on the fallout surrounding abortionist Kermit Gosnell. The governor of Pennsylvania is shaking up a regulatory system that didn't regulate Gosnell's abortion clinic. Over at National Right to Life News Today (www.nationalrighttolifenews.org), we talk about you are writing me about. Luis Zaffirini points out the deadly irony of PPFA talking about putting women and children" first." And we end the day with an utterly amazing story. To do the best job possible I need your feedback on both Today's News & Views and National Right to Life News Today. Please send your comments to daveandrusko@gmail.com. Congressman Mike Pence (R-Ind.)

Many of our kind readers responded to Monday's story about how important this week is to pro-life initiatives (www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Feb11/nv021411.html). Thank you very much for not only reading this post but also passing it along. But the bills we talked about yesterday are not the only areas of crucial importance to our Movement.

Yesterday the National Right to Life Committee sent an letter to Members of Congress detailing the multiple significant issues NRLC anticipates coming up this week as the House of Representatives considers the Continuing Resolution to fund all federal programs through September 30, 2011. The Members were informed that their votes on these issues will be including in NRLC's "Scorecard."

Alerting your Member of the House how you feel about these issues is crucial. For information how you can quickly and easily contact your member of the House, go to http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/callalert/index.tt?alertid=27960501&type=CO

These issues include:

· Restoring the ban on government funding of abortion in the District of Columbia (except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest).

· Restoring and codifying the "Mexico City Policy," under which U.S. foreign aid for "population assistance" will go only to foreign organizations that agree not to promote or perform abortion in foreign countries.

· Blocking any additional U.S. funds from going to the United Nations Population Fund. For years the UNFPA has aggressively sought to undermine protections for unborn children throughout the developing world and been an active participant in China's ruthless birth-quota system, which relies heavily upon involuntary abortion.

· The conscience protection amendment to be offered by Congressman John Fleming. The Obama Administration intends to rescind a Bush Administration regulation which provides remedies for health care providers who are penalized for refusing to participate in providing abortions. The Fleming Amendment would prevent the expenditure of funds to rescind or modify the conscience-protecting regulation.

· The Pence Amendment to deny all federal funds to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and 102 PPFA affiliates through September 30. In its February 14 letter, NRLC wrote, "PPFA is the nation's largest abortion provider, reporting 324,008 abortions in 2008. It appears that abortion accounts for roughly one-third of the aggregate income generated by PPFA-affiliated clinics. According to press reports, PPFA has recently mandated that all of its regional affiliates must provide abortions by the end of 2013. Recent media reports regarding abuses associated with PPFA-affiliated clinics in multiple states provide an additional justification for the amendment. NRLC strongly supports the Pence Amendment, and will include the roll call in our scorecard."
