The Pro-Life Week in Review
Part Four of Four

By Dave Andrusko

There is much to discuss today, so let's get right to our weekly look back at what we've covered Monday through Thursday.

If you are a card-carrying member of the Abortion Establishment, these last two weeks have been your worst nightmare. Think about all the dreadful news that has seeped out.

Pro-lifers know that there are plenty of abortionists whose first concern is not the woman's health but the almighty dollar. I suspect so do most of our opponents.

But they are trapped when the truth comes out. Desperate to keep their ill-deserved reputation intact, every abomination has to be dismissed as an "aberration," and an "outlier" that is as rare as an adoption referral at a Planned Parenthood clinic.

For example, abortionist Kermit Gosnell, charged with eight counts of murder--one, a 41-year-old woman who died from an overdose of drugs, and seven babies born alive whom Gosnell killed by snipping their spines, according to a Grand Jury report. For further fall out, go to www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Jan2011/nv013111.html and www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/GosnellOneLook.html. We are also running excerpts of the report at National Right to Life News Today (www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/GosnellLollateralDamage.html).

Then there are the videos taken covertly of Planned Parenthood abortion clinics in New Jersey and Virginia ( www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/PPNJ.html and www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Feb11/nv020311.html). As I wrote Wednesday, "When they asked the office manager [in New Jersey] what should they do if one of the young girls they pretended to be using as sex slaves needs an abortion, they were allegedly told to take them to Metropolitan Medical Associates where 'their protocols aren't as strict as ours and they don't get audited the same way that we do.' Back in 2009 Liz Townsend wrote a story for National Right to Life News headlined, 'Abortion Mill Settles Lawsuit with Injured Woman' for $1.9 million. The headline refers to Metropolitan Medical Associates."

But there was lots and lots of good news as well. A Federal Judge on Monday declared ObamaCare unconstitutional (www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/ObamaCareUnconstitutional.html). That served to encourage pro-lifers, in Congress and at the grassroots, to gear up to even greater efforts.

Two weeks ago the House, lead by pro-life Republicans, had voted to overturn ObamaCare. This past Wednesday the Senate, controlled by pro-abortion Democrats, rejected the effort, strictly along party lines. However, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) promised to keep the heat on. "This issue is still before us, and we are going to go at it in a variety of ways." (www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Feb11/nv020311part2.html).

A Federal Judge struck down a blatantly discriminatory city of Baltimore Ordinance that had target pro-life pregnancy centers. U.S. District Court Judge Marvin J. Garbis' analysis was a withering critique of the 2009 measure (www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Jan2011/nv013111part3.html).

We also reviewed two powerfully pro-life books: "Surprise Child" (www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Feb11/nv020111.html); and "unPlanned"
(www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Feb11/nv020211part2.html). In addition, we updated you on the latest successes using adult stem cells, the pro-life alternative to embryonic stem cells (www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/ChangingSkin.html and www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/ChangingSkin.html).

When you received our blog entries, you were updated over and over on January 22-related activities carried out by NRLC affiliates.

Finally, NRLC Director of State Legislation Mary Spaulding Balch offered a very encouraging overview of initiatives in the state legislatures (www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/VergeofVictories.html).

Have a great weekend. See you Monday.
