Some of the 5,000 pro-life Nebraskans who braved weather in the teens to
Walk for Life in Lincoln, Nebraska on Jan. 30th.

On January 31st 5,000 pro-life Nebraskans rallied in frigid temperatures at the state capitol of Lincoln for the annual Walk for Life, sponsored by Nebraska Right to Life.

Ten state elected officials, including Governor Dave Heineman and Attorney General Jon Bruning, kicked off the Walk which was preceded by half an hour of pumping music. Many Catholics attended Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral across from the Capitol an hour prior to Walk program.

Information about LB 1103, the Abortion Pain Prevention Act, was distributed at the Nebraska Walk for Life on the State Capitol steps, Jan. 30th.

The focus at the Capitol was the introduction of the “Abortion Pain Prevention Act” (LB 1103). Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood, sponsor of the Abortion Pain Prevention Act, told attendees that his bill would ban abortions performed on babies capable of feeling pain absent a significant risk to the mother. Flood told the crowd that documented medical findings show that babies at 20 weeks can feel pain.

Many of the Walk attendees wore stickers which stated, "Unborn Babies Feel Pain; Support LB 1103,” and "Abortion Hurts.” 400 pink-and-blue memorial balloons were released at the Capitol in memory of the millions of unborn children who have been aborted since 1973.

After an eight-block walk through downtown Lincoln, roughly a third of the crowd went inside the University of Nebraska Student Union to hear speeches by Mary Spaulding Balch,J.D.,and Jane Hampton Cook. Chairs were blanketed with hand-outs about unborn pain, LB 1103 and how to contact Nebraska's state senators.

Mary Balch, NRLC’s State Legislative Director , gave the overflow crowd a briefing on LB 1103. Cook, an author and FOX News historical commentator, gave an uplifting address about what our country's forefathers had to endure to secure freedom.

Pro-life information booths, baked goods, and hot beverages rounded out the offerings at the Student Union which always provides a time of camaraderie for pro-life Nebraskans.
