The Pro-Life Week in
Review
Part One of Three
By Dave Andrusko
Editor's note. Good
evening and thanks for reading Today's News & Views.
Part Two tells a wonderful
story of the power of ultrasound to change hearts and minds.
Part Three is a beautiful story
about a dad's love for his daughter. Over at National Right to
Life News Today (www.nationalrighttolifenews.org),
we offer some thoughts on the parole of Robert Latimer and the
alarming acceptance of infanticide in parts of Europe. Please
send your comments on Today's News & Views and National Right to
Life News Today to

Ordinarily I use this
space to talk exclusively about what we've covered Monday
through Thursday. Today I'd like to begin by asking that you
read "A Different Kind of Christmas Carol," which is
Part Three for Friday.

Mary
Spaulding Balch, J.D., NRLC Director of
State Legislation |
With NRLC's important
State Legislative Strategy Conference coming up next Tuesday, we
devoted a lot of time this week to explaining how this meeting
will utilize the outstanding November 2 election results to
further the cause of life in the state legislatures (for
example,
http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/index.html;
http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv112910.html).
By the same token the
strategy conference will work to dispel several myths, including
the much-repeated idea (a) that there are few, if any,
abortionists who perform abortions late in pregnancy, and (b)
that such abortions are "rare." (http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Dec10/nv120210part2.html)
As always we kept a close
eye out of Planned Parenthood. First, what their tax records
show (www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv112410part2.html),
and second, how no matter what they say or do--ostensibly even
closing abortion clinics--in the end they "serve" more women,
that is, abort more babies (http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Dec10/nv120110.html).
We also took several runs
at the anti-life notion that remains alive and well--that the
unborn lack "moral status," meaning they can be disposed of at
will (http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv112410part3.html;
and
http://www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/ThinkingaboutAbortion.html).
It's important to know what they are thinking.
There was good news from
Scotland--the Scottish parliament massively rejected euthanasia
bill by a vote of 85 to 1 (www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/ScotlandEuthanasiaDefeated.html)
-- and a breakthrough in a technique that holds out the promise
of eliminating the whole rationale for scavenging stem cells
from human embryos (http://www.nrlc.org/NewsToday/DirectConversionAndrusko.html).
There is much, much more,
but if you missed it, I hope that you will take the time to read
my explanation why the Hyde Amendment so rankles
pro-abortionists (http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Nov10/nv113010part3.html)
and our readers' excellent follow-up commentary (http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Dec10/nv120110part2.html).
Please be sure to read
and comment both on Today's News & Views and National Right to
Life News Today (www.nationalrighttolifenews.org).
Have a great weekend!
