Promising Prospects for Pro-Life Candidates
Part Two of Three

By Dave Andrusko

Combining the results of Tuesday's primaries and data complied by Rasmussen Reports, a number of pro-life candidates are faring well, in some cases much better than "experts" had originally forecast. Let's look at just a few.

In the Florida Senate race to fill the seat vacated last year by pro-life Republican Mel Martinez, there is now a clear-cut pro-life candidate--Republican Marco Rubio--a clear-cut pro-abortion candidate--Democrat Kendrick Meek--and a third who tried to straddle the middle but has fallen off the horse--Republican turned Independent Charlie Crist competing in November. Rasmussen Reports polled 750 Likely Voters and found Rubio with 40%, Crist with 30%, and Meek will 21%. Prior to the primary, Rubio had a 5% lead on Crist.

Rasmussen Reports good news for pro-life Republican Carly Fiorina running against incumbent pro-abortion California Senator Barbara Boxer. Boxer has the nod of 44% of the respondents to 43% for Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard. In July Boxer's lead was 7%, while earlier this month, according to Rasmussen, "Boxer held a five-point lead, 45% to 40%."

One other important number. "Eighty-two percent (82%) of those who support Fiorina say they are already certain how they will vote in November," Rasmussen reports. "Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Boxer's supporters say the same."

In Wisconsin, the one percent point margin belongs to the pro-life candidate--Republican Ron Johnson--who leads pro-abortion Democratic incumbent Russ Feingold, 47% to 46%. According to Rasmussen, "Feingold is viewed Very Favorably by 31% of Wisconsin voters and Very Unfavorably by 32%" while "Twenty-five percent (25%) have a Very Favorable opinion of Johnson, but 19% view him Very Unfavorably."
