Twitter Unveils New Tool
to Share Web Content
Part Two of Three
By Luis Zaffirini
Yesterday, Twitter
unveiled a new innovation in information-sharing it calls a
"Tweet Button." The company says that it is "the easiest way to
share your favorite content from the web on Twitter."
Regular users of Twitter
will wonder how much easier it can be to share information,
especially in light of the fact that services such as TweetMeme
(which National Right to Life uses on "StopTheAbortionAgenda.com")
make sharing pro-life news and information on Twitter so easy
already. Trust me, it will make a difference.
Partnering with TweetMeme,
Twitter's Tweet Button has stolen some of the thunder of other
third-party developers by cutting out the middle-man and handing
the power of information sharing directly to bloggers and web
designers. Without leaving the page you are viewing, you are
able to click, type, and share a pre-shortened URL. When you are
finished the Twitter account of the website publisher will be
suggested to you if you are not already following them. That is
critically important.
It really is a cleaner,
smarter way to share news and information for both the reader
and for the writer. And the Internet is taking major notice.
This tiny button has generated thousands of discussions on blogs
all around the world.
Why is this is an
important development for Twitter? Nearly a quarter of all
tweets contain a link, and that link is typically shortened to
accommodate the 140 character space constraint. It's also
significant for sharing Right-to-Life information quickly and
more efficiently while also automatically suggesting to users
that they follow NRLC on Twitter (which is found at
http://twitter.com/nrlc,
by the way).
While we will be relying
in TweetMeme for the next week or so, look for the new Tweet
Button at the end of postings on StopTheAbortionAgenda.com soon.
As always, we encourage
you to share the good information our team is producing daily
with your pro-life friends and family and to get them in the
habit of participating in social media as well. People are
increasingly turning to the Internet and social networking sites
for information on a broad range of topics, and ours is critical
message that need to heard.
