Some Random Thoughts at the End of an Historic Week
Part One of Three

By Dave Andrusko

Part Two is a reflection on the lessons of a remarkable film. Part Three is a ghastly experiment in genetic manipulation. Please also check out our new blog at www.nationalrighttolifenews.org and send your comments to daveandrusko@gmail.com.

Let me offer a few random thoughts as we come to the end of an exciting week. See if you are as pumped as I am.

l. Tremendous news out of Nebraska. Reverberations from Nebraska's "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act" will be felt for years. The Supreme Court, with its newest Justice (the replacement for Justice John Paul Stevens) may well be confronted with the kind of soul-wrenching question raised by the legislative ban on the hideous partial-birth abortion technique. And that is can we sit idly by while unborn children capable of experiencing pain are ripped apart?

2. The International Abortion Establishment took it on the chin this week. For years it argued that there are a half-million maternal deaths (which may or may not be accurate) but then followed with a non sequitor: the "solution" is to kill/abort more babies! Well, as we reported yesterday, an exquisitely documented report appeared this week in the prestigious British medical journal, the Lancet. While still tragically high, between 1980 and 2008, the number of maternal deaths dropped to 343,000. The explanation was complex, but not a word about abortion! Writing in the Los Angeles Times, Thomas Maugh said, "[Dr. Christopher] Murray and his colleagues say they are confident in their figures because they have compiled a lot more data than has been possible before, from vital registration data, censuses, surveys and autopsy studies." That did not stop some of the usual suspects from trying to persuade the Lancet to hold off publishing or from publishing their own report that said nothing had changed!

3. Finally, it is really important that you begin to focus, if you haven't already, on making plans to attend NRLC's National Convention in Pittsburgh, June 24-26. There are 78 great reasons to come: 72 workshops, four general sessions, a prayer breakfast, and a closing banquet. American Idol contestant Maddy Curtis will be speaking to the Teens about her pro-life convictions. She will share what a privilege it's been to be one of twelve children and to have four brothers with Down syndrome. Go to http://stoptheabortionagenda.com/convention and get started!

Have a great weekend. Talk to you Monday.
