Rasmussen Reports 60% of Likely
Voters Support Repeal of ObamaCare
By Dave Andrusko
In Part One of Today’s News &
Views, I write about a backdoor attempt by the Obama
Administration to circumvent strong opposition to federally
funding so-called “end-of-life planning.” Even by Obama’s
flexible standards, using a Medicare regulation is really
subversive of the legislative process—bureaucratically
accomplishing what your own party ran from legislatively.
But even without Section 1233
–the provision that was dropped from ObamaCare—the “Affordable
Health Care Act of 2010” is still deeply unpopular with the
public. The lead paragraph in Rasmussen Reports today indicates
the resistance and one of the many reasons for the opposition.
“For the second time this month,
60% of Likely Voters at least somewhat favor repeal of the
national health care law, while the number who expect health
care costs to increase is at its highest level since August.”
There are two nuances. First, the
aforementioned fact that this is the second time 60% favor its
repeal (49% strongly favor its repeal). According to Rasmussen,
since the bill became law in March, support for repeal has
ranged between 53% and 63%.
Second, “[L]ast week also marked
the first time a majority of voters believe the measure is
likely to be repealed.”
ObamaCare was sold on several grounds. Among the most important
was the assurance that it would reduce costs, a proposition the
public has never bought.
“Sixty-one percent (61%) of
voters nationwide believe the law will cause health care costs
to go up, which ties the highest level measured on the question
since the bill was passed,” according to Rasmussen Reports. “
Only 17% now expect costs to go down while the same number (17%)
says costs will stay about the same.”
