There are few people with the academic background, pain-staking commitment to detail, and long-history of observing Planned Parenthood of NRLC’s Director of Education, Dr. Randall K. O’Bannon. Yesterday Dr. O’Bannon provided a condensed overview of the latest from PPFA—the latest which was not PPFA’s annual report, but instead a three-page fact sheet (www.plannedparenthood.org/files/PPFA/fact_ppservices_2010-09-03.pdf).

It is tempting but unprofitable to speculate why a report, usually published around April, is still unavailable. What we do know is this factsheet “is silent about the group’s lucrative finances, but does tell us that the group has once again performed a record number of abortions at its clinics,” as Dr. O’Bannon explained.

Let me just highlight two additional points found in the PPFA Fact Sheet.

First, as Jeanne Monahan has observed, while the number of abortions had jumped a whopping 6%, the number of adoption referrals has dropped by more than half. There were 2,405 in 2008, a decline from the 4,912 adoption referrals reported for 2007.”

This is significant for many reasons, not the least of which is PPFA is forever insisting that the revenues from abortion is just a tiny fraction of its billion-dollar enterprise. Dr. O’Bannon has debunked the [in]famous 3% figure on many occasions. (See, for example, www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/May10/nv051210.html. ) But another part of PPFA’s perennial make-over is to insist that it also does adoption referrals.

Second, there is this on page one, under “International Activities.” We read, “Planned Parenthood works around the world to increase access to sexual and reproductive health information and services. We provide health care and education through local partners and advocate for sound U.S. foreign policies that affect sexual and reproductive health and rights globally.”

Translated into English, PPFA works night and day to undermine the protective abortion laws of nations around the world. One of the ways they multiple the killing is to lobby for the elimination of the pro-life Mexico City policy, which pro-abortion President Barack Obama eagerly did in his first month in office.
