NARAL Has a New Enemy: Pro-Life Speaker of the House John Boehner

By Dave Andrusko

Years and years ago a local pro-lifer sent me an editorial cartoon he had drawn. It showed two people looking directly at each other with one saying, “Your dream is my nightmare.”

NARAL President Nancy Keenan and President Obama

I instantly thought of that cartoon when I read an Alert from NARAL. This was a fundraiser, so, naturally, it dovetailed its message with a current—a very current—event.

“Dear Pro-Choice Activist,” read the email from NARAL President Nancy Keenan. “Today, John Boehner was sworn in as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the most powerful anti-choice politician in the country.”

And what, she asks, “is his first order of business?” Answering her own question, “Overturning the new health-care law.”

She goes on to lament that “I've seen my fair share of anti-choice,” but, wow. “In the 20 years we've tracked John Boehner, he's never voted pro-choice.”

The email goes on with decreasing levels of accuracy and increasing amounts of hysteria. But give NARAL credit. They know abortion's enemy.

Just as we know the unborn child's friend: pro-life John Boehner, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
