Abortionist Gosnell: “It should have taken only one look”

By Dave Andrusko

The impact of abortionist/alleged murderer Kermit Gosnell continues to spread, like ripples on a pond. In this case what stirred the water was charges by a furious Philadelphia Grand Jury that Gosnell and several of his untrained, unlicensed staff were responsible for the murders of Karnamaya Mongar and seven born-alive babies who were killed when their spines were snipped.

What do I mean? A friend asked me if the “mainstream” press responded in its usual ho-hum manner when Philadelphia Attorney District Attorney Seth Williams held a press conference to announce what the Grand Jury had concluded in its 261-page report. With the exception of the incorrigible editorial page of the New York Times, most outlets “got it.” What Gosnell is charged with is so grotesque it sheers away all but the most battle-tested pro-abortion armor. Something MUST be done to reign in the likes of Gosnell's Women's Medical Society in West Philadelphia.

I thought of that yesterday when I read an editorial in the News Journal of Delaware. (Gosnell piled his trade one day a week in Delaware.)

The first half was boiler-plate abortion apologetics. Then, out of the blue, it was as if the two sides of the writer’s brain made contact.

After telling us that abortion is practically as American as apple pie, “That said, Delawareans should have the assurance that abortions done here are carried out in a civilized, sterile and professional manner. Abortion clinics should be inspected and cleared by state authorities.” The editorial then added, “But apparently, Delaware has never had any standards for approving abortion facilities.”

To be clear, having “standards,” or having in place layers of regulatory agencies, from the state on-down is not assurance that the atrocities Gosnell is charged with committing won’t take place. There needs to be a will, a commitment to assuring that abortion clinics are not inspection-free zones.

That is precisely what was lacking in Pennsylvania. Second only to the Grand Jury’s anger at Gosnell is its rage that authorities did nothing, even though there was an abundance of evidence that the clinic was a filthy pit that preyed on poor women of color with a cavalier disregard for their safety.

As the Grand Jury put it perfectly, “It should have taken only one look.”
