"Dear Dave"
By Dave Andrusko
When you write as much as I do
and receive as many kindly emails in return as I do, you might
think, at least to some extent, that I might no longer be moved.
You would be wrong. Maybe it's because I am getting older, but
the passion of your commitment gets to me more today than it did
when I began so many years ago.
I
wrote a blog entry yesterday which carried the headline, "Under
the Radar: "Selective Reductions" The topic was "fetal
reduction"--where a mother aborts some of her unborn babies.
Typically the baby dies when a potassium chloride solution is
injected into her heart (www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Dec10/nv121610part2.html).
Once upon a time this involved
almost exclusively "selectively reducing" a pregnancy where a
mom was carrying 3-6 unborn babies, or even more. What's new in
this ghastly story is that, increasingly, parents are "reducing
twins to singletons" (as it's often cavalierly phrased) for
lifestyle reasons.
I received the following in
response. The conclusion and her name have been omitted.
"Dear Dave,
"I am the grandmother of 3 1/2
year old twins, and I find this absolutely heartbreaking and
horrifying. ALL abortion is heartbreaking and horrifying, but
this touches me to the core.
"Thank you for all that you are
doing to help stop abortion. In prayerful solidarity and with
persevering in hard work, we will raise up a Culture of Life,
because we know without a doubt that grace is more powerful than
sin, and God's mercy is greater than evil."
To which I can only add, Amen.
