Fundamental change in America's health care system is high on the list of topics the new Congress and President will tackle in 2009. It is a major issue in the election campaigns candidates will wage through November 2008. Pressure is mounting from powerful groups – big business, major medical organizations, unions, the press – and many ordinary Americans for dramatic changes. Attention is focused both on the rising number of uninsured and on increasing health care expenditures. The pro-life movement has a vital stake in what happens to proposals to restructure America's health care, in fighting both inclusion of abortion and the rationing of life-saving medical treatment, a form of involuntary euthanasia. In 1993-94, National Right to Life played a vital role in blocking the abortion-including Clinton Health Care Rationing Plan. This time the odds of dramatic health care reform passing, many informed observers believe, are higher. The pro-life movement must be prepared to work effectively to ensure that any legislation that passes excludes abortion and prevents rationing. That work must begin now, while the issue is being debated during the national election campaign. To participate constructively, pro-lifers must be informed and articulate. While our goals are clear, the specifics of health care reform proposals, and how they would impact pro-life interests, are complex. It is vital that grass-roots prolifers as well as lobbyists and leaders know the critical facts and arguments. Therefore, on the day after the convention – Sunday, July 6, 2008 – NRLC will conduct a seminar on "Pro-Life Issues in Health Care Reform" from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the convention hotel. It is open to anyone attending the convention. Registration is only $25, a fee which will cover lunch and snacks. To reserve the appropriate number of seats and meals, however, pro-lifers are asked to pre-register in accordance with the instructions on the back. NRLC's 2008 HEALTH CARE SEMINAR
