Job Openings in NRLC Legislative Office

WASHINGTON (May 8, 2000) - The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) is currently accepting applications for two positions in its Federal Legislative Office in Washington, D.C.

The Federal Legislative Office is the department primarily responsible for advancing NRLC's public policy goals in Congress.

Administrative Assistant

One position is for the administrative assistant for the Federal Legislative Office. This staff person provides secretarial and support services for the Federal Legislative Director and other NRLC lobbyists. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for applicants interested in the legislative process and pro-life public policy work.

This position requires an individual who is highly motivated and energetic, well organized, and attentive to detail. Duties include directing and screening calls for the Federal Legislative Director and lobbying staff, answering grassroots queries about federal legislative issues, maintaining legislative files and data lists, proofreading memos and articles, and organizing mass mailings.

A background in pro-life activities is highly desirable. Some experience with or knowledge of legislative matters is very helpful. Familiarity with office equipment is helpful.

Legislative Assistant

The second open position is for a legislative assistant. This is a staff person who works under the supervision of the Federal Legislative Director, performing a wide variety of lobbying, research, and organizational tasks. The position requires a person who is highly motivated and energetic, well organized, and attentive to detail.

Applicants for the legislative assistant position must be very conversant with pro-life issues and have demonstrated previous pro-life commitment. Good communication skills are required, as job responsibilities include frequent contacts with lawmakers and congressional staff, and with pro-life activists nationwide. Previous experience with Congress or other legislative bodies is a strong asset. Good research and writing skills are also highly desirable.
