From the National Right to Life Committee
Federal Legislation Department
November 10, 2009

During the November 7 House floor debate on
the
Stupak-Pitts amendment, Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY)
said that the amendment "puts new restrictions
on women's access to abortion coverage in the
private health insurance market even when they
would pay premiums with their own money."
On November 9,
PolitiFact.com issued an analysis and has rated
this comment as
"FALSE,"
here. However, there have been similar
mischaracterizations of the Stupak-Pitts
Amendment in many news stories in recent days.
For
additional information on what the Stupak-Pitts
Amendment does and does not do, please see
this analysis
by National Public Radio.
Earlier today,
PolitiFact.com
also reviewed a November 8 statement by Planned
Parenthood, "President Obama campaigned on a
promise to put reproductive health care at the
center of his reform plan," which PolitiFact.com
rated as "TRUE,"
here. A short video clip of Obama making
the promise can be viewed on NRLC’s
YouTube Channel
here. NRLC's latest comment on President
Obama's activity on this matter is found
here.
